Eid Mubarak! (Announcement of the Crescent Sighting of Shawwal 1447 AH)

Allah ﷻ is Greatest, Allah ﷻ is Greatest, Allah ﷻ is Greatest. There is no Allah ﷻ but Allah ﷻ. Allah ﷻ is Greatest, Allah ﷻ is Greatest, and to Allah ﷻ belongs all praise.

In the name of Allah ﷻ, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah ﷻ, his family, his Companions (ra), and those who follow him.

Muslim narrated in his Sahih, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Ziyad, who said: I heard Abu Hurairah (may Allah ﷻ be pleased with him) say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: «صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، فَإِنْ غُبِيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَعُدُّوا ثَلَاثِينَ» “Fast when you see the Hilal crescent moon, and break your fast when you see it. If it is obscured from you, then complete thirty days.”

After observing the Hilal crescent moon of Shawwal on this blessed night, Thursday, its sighting was confirmed according to Shariah Law in some Muslim countries. Therefore, tomorrow, Thursday, is the first day of Shawwal and the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

On this occasion, I convey my congratulations, and those of the director of the Central Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir and all its members, to the esteemed alim and Ameer of Hizb ut Tahrir, Ata bin Khalil Abu Rashta, asking Allah ﷻ to grant him victory (nasr) and empower Islam and the Muslims through him, so that the Ummah may pledge Bayah of allegiance to him as its Khaleefah (Caliph) soon.

Hizb ut Tahrir, with its Ameer and its men and women around the world, asks Allah ﷻ that this Eid al-Fitr be a harbinger of good tidings for the Islamic Ummah, and that its return to the Ummah comes with Allah having bestowed upon it the blessings of leadership, empowerment, and security.

This year, Eid al-Fitr arrives as the rapidly unfolding events in Muslim lands are etching lessons and insights into the awareness of the Islamic Ummah, shaking it to its core and freeing it from misconceptions and illusions. It has become abundantly clear to the Muslim world, beyond any doubt, that seeking the aid of the disbelieving, colonialist West, or serving its interests to gain its favor, or even under the pretext of avoiding its harm, is nothing but a losing proposition that brings its practitioners nothing but disgrace in this world and the hereafter.

The rulers of Muslim countries have poured billions, then trillions, of dollars of the wealth of the Islamic Ummah into the coffers of Trump under the guise of purchasing protection from America, only to have America ignite a war in their lands. Indeed, Trump is forcing them to fight alongside him to achieve his own interests.

Similarly, Iran, which remained within America’s orbit for decades, coordinating with it in the occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq—to the point that one of Iran’s former presidents declared that without Iran, America would have failed to occupy those two countries—has yet America shown no gratitude to Iran, declaring war upon it, assassinating its Supreme Leader, and attempting to overthrow its regime.

What is happening in Muslim lands compels us to consider two issues:

The first issue is that all calls for subservience to the disbelieving, colonial West, whether to avoid its harm or to gain its favor, are nothing but political suicide that will only lead to ruin and destruction for those who make such calls, as events have proven. Moreover, it is forbidden, contradicting the path of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the way of the Khulafa’a Rashidoon (Rightly Guided Caliphs), and it incurs the wrath of Allah ﷻ Almighty in this world and the Hereafter. Allah ﷻ Almighty says: ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَتَّخِذُوا عَدُوِّي وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَاء تُلْقُونَ إِلَيْهِم بِالْمَوَدَّةِ وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا بِمَا جَاءَكُم مِّنَ الْحَقِّ﴾ “O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies, extending to them affection while they have disbelieved in what has come to you of the truth.”

The second point is that Muslims must not be deceived by the claims of the disbelieving, colonialist West and its agents that Muslim peoples are incapable of reclaiming their independent decision-making. The West’s capabilities are limited to what is readily apparent. America, whose military the world touted as the strongest, has failed to achieve its pretense that its war with Iran would be a walk in the park, similar to its actions in Venezuela. The war has dragged on and become more complex, leaving Trump and his cronies in a difficult position. They have resorted to fabricating one lie after another about their supposed achievements in eliminating Iran’s military capabilities, while desperately searching for a way out of their predicament.

Therefore, on this blessed occasion, we call upon the Islamic Ummah to celebrate its Eid with joy, despite the wishes of its enemies. Let this Eid al-Fitr be a time for anticipating victory and empowerment. Let them remember that the Khilafah (Caliphate) is the political system to which the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ guided us, the system implemented by the Companions (may Allah ﷻ be pleased with them), and the system that guaranteed the Muslim Ummah its dignity throughout history. It has known no dignity except under its rule. The nation must now engage in the work of restoring it, making it its paramount concern.

The youth of Hizb ut Tahrir have prepared themselves to revive this great obligation of Islamic culture and political awareness. They are among you, extending their hands to you, hoping that Allah will grant us and you victory and empowerment. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave us glad tidings of what will follow this oppressive rule in the hadith narrated by Hudhayfah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, «ثُمَّ تَكُونُ خِلَافَةً عَلَى مِنْهَاجِ النُّبُوَّةِ، ثُمَّ سَكَتَ» “Then there will be a Khilafah (Caliphate) on the Method of the Prophethood,” and then he remained silent.

Eid Mubarak.

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah ﷻ be upon you.

Thursday night, the first day of Shawwal, 1447 AH, corresponding to March 19, 2025 CE.

Engineer Salah al-Din Adada
Director of the Central Media Office of Hizb ut-Tahrir
