The question is: What is the true nature of the events taking place in Suwayda? What is the Zionist entity planning for the Suwayda region and southern Syria in general? Is the US supporting it in this plan? And how is all this related to the reported normalization talks between the Syrian regime and the Zionist entity, especially the meetings that took place in Azerbaijan and the mentioned meetings in Paris? May Allah (swt) reward you with goodness.

Answer:
To clarify the answers to the above questions, we will review the following points:

1- As for the Druze: Their number in Syria is estimated at around 700,000, residing mainly in the southern regions of the country, particularly in the Suwayda Governorate. A section of them, of about 250,000, live in Lebanon, while another estimated 140,000 reside in northern Palestine, and the Golan Heights. The Zionist entity granted its citizenship to those living in the occupied areas, and some of them have even joined its army. The Zionist entity thus uses them as a pretext to intervene in Syria.

Since the end of February, the Zionist entity began stirring unrest among the Druze, in areas like Jaramana and Sahnaya near the capital Damascus. In the recent events in Suwayda, which erupted on 12 July 2025, the Zionist entity openly declared its support for the Druze and its intent to exploit them. Druze militias carried out violent acts against Muslim Bedouins living in Suwayda, killing hundreds of them.

The Prime Minister of the Zionist entity, Netanyahu, stated in a speech broadcast by Zionist media on 17 July 2025, “We have set a clear policy, disarmament of the area south of Damascus, from the Golan Heights to Jabal al-Druze. That is the first line. The second line is the protection of the Druze in Jabal al-Druze.”

On 16 July 2025, the Zionist entity’s Defense Minister, Yisrael Katz, issued threats to Syria via the X platform, saying, “The signals to Damascus have ended, and now come the painful strikes… The army will continue operating forcefully in Suwayda to destroy the forces that attacked the Druze until their full withdrawal.”

The spokesperson of the Zionist army also said on X, “The army continues striking military targets of the Syrian regime and just recently attacked the Syrian General Staff Headquarters in the Damascus area.”

On the same day, the Zionist entity’s military radio announced, “About 160 targets have been attacked in Syria since last night, most of them in Suwayda against Syrian security forces and Bedouins and some in the capital Damascus.”

Strikes were reported against the presidential palace, the Ministry of Defense, and the General Staff in Damascus.

2- Thus, the Zionist entity openly declares its objectives and policies, clearly stating that it is exploiting the Druze, to implement its strategy toward Syria, as if the Druze matter to it more than they do to the Syrian regime. This is effectively carving out this region from Syria, and asserting the dominance of the Zionist entity over it.

It is worth noting that the Zionist entity had never ceased attacking Syria during the rule of Bashar al-Assad. However, previously it used the presence of Iran and its allies, as the justification. It struck many military positions belonging to both the regime and Iran, which was supporting the regime with its militias. The Zionist entity even bombed the Iranian consulate in Damascus and killed several Iranian military commanders.

On the day Bashar al-Assad fled, 8 December 2024, the Zionist entity launched intense air raids over several consecutive days, targeting hundreds of Syrian military sites. When the Zionist entity received no response or resistance, it grew bolder and continued its aggression, eventually advancing and occupying new Syrian territory. It reached within approximately 25 kilometers of the capital Damascus and occupied Jabal al-Sheikh (Mount Hermon), violating the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and the ceasefire terms.

The Zionist entity aims to secure southern Syria as a demilitarized buffer zone, using the minority card, especially the Druze, to achieve that goal.

3- Following these events, Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa gave a speech broadcast by Syrian television and other Arab TV networks on the morning of 17 July 2025, in which he said, “We were faced with the choice of going to war with Israel or allowing Druze elders to negotiate and we chose to protect the homeland.” He also stated, “Israel attempted to undermine the ceasefire in Suwayda, were it not for US, Arab, and Turkish mediation.”

Al-Sharaa delivered a second speech on 19 July 2025, which was reported by the Syrian News Agency and aired on television, in which he said, “The Syrian state has managed to calm the situation despite the difficult circumstances, but the Israeli intervention has pushed the country into a dangerous phase threatening its stability, due to the blatant bombardment of the south and government institutions in Damascus. Following these events, US and Arab mediation efforts intervened in an attempt to restore calm.”

Thus, Al-Sharaa is relying on the intervention of foreign countries, foremost among them the United States, which sponsors and supports the Zionist entity, thereby giving them leverage over him!

4- Then the events escalated, and the connection between the Zionists and Hikmat al-Hijri began to become clear. He tightened his grip over internal affairs in Suwayda, and under slogans like “uniting the ranks within the sect” and “consoling the families of the martyrs,” he began suppressing dissenting voices such as those of Jarbu’, Al-Balaous, and Al-Hanawi.

Although Hikmat al-Hijri’s faction is the largest in Suwayda, and dominates the other factions, the opposition voices like those of Jarbu’, Al-Balaous have become faint and hesitant, in calling for continued unity with the Syrian state. Moreover, they have no real weight on the ground. It is Hikmat al-Hijri who is igniting the confrontations, disavowing the agreements made with Damascus, and his current controls Suwayda. He issues statements in the name of the spiritual leadership of the Druze community with no regard for the references of Jarbu’ and Al-Hanawi.

It is clear that he is in direct contact with the Zionist entity. He had previously sent dozens of Druze visitors to the Zionist entity. Hikmat al-Hijri issued a statement in the name of the spiritual presidency of the Druze saying, “We appeal to the free world and all influential powers within it, and we direct our plea to His Excellency President Donald Trump, His Excellency Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, His Majesty King Abdullah II, and all who have a voice and influence in this world… Save Suwayda.” (Anadolu Agency, 17/7/2025)

The Zionist entity then opened its border crossings to the Druze, from within its territory, to join the fighting inside Syria. Russia Times reported on 19 July 2025 that around 2,000 members of the Druze community, including soldiers serving in the Zionist army, announced, within a single day, their intent to join the fighting in Syria.

5- It is worth noting that the Damascus government has made itself the weakest link in the chain of events surrounding Suwayda and southern Syria.

In addition to its complacency and inaction toward all the military strikes carried out by the Zionist entity strikes targeting it, its weapons, and its territory in southern Syria, where killings and arrests are carried out as if there were no state, the Syrian regime’s lack of response has been based on advice from Erdogan. He publicly expressed support for the American president’s request for Damascus to join the Abraham Accords (Ash-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper, 6 July 2025). Erdogan also sponsored the contacts between the Al-Sharaa government and the Zionist entity in Azerbaijan.

Thus, the government of Ahmad Al-Sharaa has become an extremely feeble player in the Suwayda crisis. It intervened to stop the clashes in the region, but then withdrew in humiliation, under the pressure of the Zionist entity’s bombardment which struck the Syrian General Staff and nearly hit the presidential palace. Afterwards, the US, along with so-called Arab and Turkish mediators, stepped in to allow the return of security forces, but this time from the Ministry of Interior, not the army, and with only light arms.

It then became clear that these government forces did not actually enter Suwayda. Their role was limited to preventing Arab tribes from continuing their attack on the area. They stood at the outskirts of the province, but did not enter it exactly, just as the Zionist entity had demanded, namely that the government prevent the tribes from attacking Suwayda.

In each agreement, it was the rebel Hikmat al-Hijri who would break the terms and demand new conditions, forcing the government to draft a new agreement. The latest one was already the fourth in just one week.

Through negotiations, the Al-Sharaa government managed to remove the tribal fighters, from within Suwayda without itself entering the area. Then it proceeded to displace the Arab tribes residing in Suwayda, relocating hundreds of Muslim families from the province to shelters in Daraa. Hikmat al-Hijri also carried out such displacements. It was reported that “Clashes reignited on Friday after a group affiliated with Hikmat al-Hijri, one of the Druze leaders, expelled several Sunni Bedouin tribesmen and committed violations against them.” (Anadolu Agency, 21/7/2025)

Thus, the new Syrian government has practically proven that it accepts to rule Syria, under terms dictated by America, with the path forward shaped by the US Ambassador in Turkey, and America’s envoy to Syria, Tom Barak!

6- By reflecting on the events in Syria, it becomes clear that America has been managing the situation, according to a plan that did not begin today, though it has intensified since the arrival of Trump.

President Donald Trump, during his meeting with the Prime Minister of the Zionist entity, Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, called on him to ‘resolve his issues’ with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and to act rationally. Trump told reporters during the meeting that he has a good relationship with Erdogan, saying, “I have a great relations with a man named Erdogan. Have you heard of him? I happen to like him and he likes me. I know the press will get very angry – ‘he likes Erdogan.’ But I do and he likes me.” He added that he had told Netanyahu, “I like Erdogan. If you have issues with him, solve them.” And he emphasized, “The Israelis should act rationally to resolve any problem with Turkey.” (Al Jazeera, 8 April 2025)

Then, on the following month, “On Wednesday, Trump met with Syria’s transitional president, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, in Riyadh, the first meeting of its kind in 25 years, a day after announcing the lifting of sanctions on Damascus, which the Syrian government welcomed as a ‘pivotal turning point.’ A White House spokesperson said that Trump urged the Syrian president to sign the Abraham Accords with Israel.” (France 24, 14/5/2025)

Through this meeting, the lifting of sanctions on Syria, and Trump’s request that Netanyahu coordinate his operations in Syria with Turkey, it is evident that President Trump and his administration are working toward full dominance over Syria.

7- This makes it clear that the American plan in Syria is based on a central principle: replacing one agent with another.

To achieve this, the US gave Turkey the green light to bring down the Bashar regime, and build a new one loyal to it. Despite all the compromising statements from Syria’s new president, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, which indicate his acceptance of this replacement, such as abandoning the implementation of Islam, abandoning accountability for Bashar’s loyalists, and replacing justice with so-called national reconciliation, he has even gone so far as to open secret negotiations with the Zionist entity.

These began covertly and later, openly in Azerbaijan on 12 July 2025, and then continued with the Paris meetings. Axios reported that a high-level meeting took place in Paris between the Strategic Affairs Minister of the Zionist entity, Ron Dermer, and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani, mediated by US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barak. These negotiations, which lasted around four hours, mark the first meeting of its kind between the two sides in 25 years. The focus was on reducing tensions in southern Syria, establishing security, and reaching a ceasefire.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed that an agreement was reached between Syria and the Zionist entity, through US mediation. The agreement included seven key points related to the ceasefire in southern Syria, particularly in Suwayda, which has witnessed a serious escalation since July 12.

According to the Observatory, the agreement includes: Transferring the entire Suwayda issue to American administration; Establishing local councils from among the people of Suwayda to handle public services; Forming a violations documentation committee thareports directly to the US; Disarmament of the Daraa and Quneitra provinces; Establishing local security committees there without allowing the possession of heavy weapons. All this confirms that America wants southern Syria to become a buffer zone, and secure zone, for the Zionist entity, and that it is fully satisfied with the repeated aggressions of the Zionist entity in order to pressure the regime to submit and normalize relations.

The meetings in Azerbaijan and Paris are successive steps on this path. According to media leaks, one of the key negotiation points is the creation of a security buffer zone in southern Syria, for the benefit of the Zionist entity, similar to what exists in Sinai between Egypt and the Zionist entity, under the peace treaty signed by the Egyptian regime in 1979. It is a treaty that is still in effect and prevents the Egyptian people from mobilizing, to aid their brothers in Gaza who are facing genocide.

8.⁠ ⁠Finally, it is truly painful that Syria, Al-Sham about which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said in the noble hadith reported by Al-Tabarani, from Salamah ibn Nufayl who said the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, «عُقْرُ دَارِ الإِسْلامِ بِالشَّامِ» “The stronghold of the abode of Islam is in Al-Sham” has now come under a regime that rules it far from Islam. Its ruler has thrown himself into allegiance to America, and submission to the Zionist entity, not even fighting it. Instead, he is seeking to sign peace agreements with it, and doing what pleases that entity and its patron, America.

Al-Sharaa has even kept the shabab of Hizb ut-Tahrir, callers to the Khilafah Rashidah (Rightly-Guided Caliphate) in prisons, and has not released them, to please America and the Zionist, enemies of the Khilafah (Caliphate) and its people. He is deluded in thinking that pleasing the enemies of Allah ﷻ, will preserve his regime! He has forgotten, or made himself forget, the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, reported by Ibn Hibban in his Sahih, from ‘Urwah, from Aisha (ra), who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, «مَنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَا اللهِ بِسَخَطِ النَّاسِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، وَأَرْضَى النَّاسَ عَنْهُ، وَمَنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَا النَّاسِ بِسَخَطِ اللهِ سَخَطَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ، وَأَسْخَطَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسَ» “Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah while angering the people, Allah will be pleased with him and will make the people pleased with him. And whoever seeks the pleasure of people while angering Allah, Allah will be angry with him and will make the people angry with him.” This was also reported by Al-Tirmidhi in his Sunan with the wording, «مَنْ الْتَمَسَ رِضَا اللهِ بِسَخَطِ النَّاسِ كَفَاهُ اللهُ مُؤْنَةَ النَّاسِ وَمَنْ الْتَمَسَ رِضَا النَّاسِ بِسَخَطِ اللهِ وَكَلَهُ اللهُ إِلَى النَّاسِ» “Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah while angering the people, Allah will suffice him from the people. And whoever seeks the pleasure of the people while angering Allah, Allah will leave him to the people.”

In any case, we are confident that the Khilafah (Caliphate) will return after this current oppressive rule that we are living under. Ahmad reported in his Musnad, from Hudhayfah (ra), who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, «.. ثُمَّ تَكُونُ مُلْكاً جَبْرِيَّةً فَتَكُونُ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ تَكُونَ، ثُمَّ يَرْفَعُهَا إِذَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَرْفَعَهَا، ثُمَّ تَكُونُ خِلَافَةً عَلَى مِنْهَاجِ النُّبُوَّةِ. ثُمَّ سَكَتَ» “… Then there will be oppressive rule, and it will remain as long as Allah wills. Then He will remove it when He wills. Then there will be a Khilafah (Caliphate) upon the method of Prophethood. Then he fell silent.”

This was also reported by Al-Tayalisi in his Musnad.
At that time, Islam and the Muslims will be honored, and disbelief and the disbelievers will be humiliated. And give glad tidings to the believers, ﴿وَأُخْرَى تُحِبُّونَهَا نَصْرٌ مِنَ اللهِ وَفَتْحٌ قَرِيبٌ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴾ “He will also give you another favour that you long for: help from Allah and an imminent victory. So give good news O Prophet to the believers.” [Surah As-Saf 13]
